Considerations When You Require Smash Repairs

Posted on

Being involved in a car accident is always unfortunate, whether or not you got harmed in the process. Almost always after a fender bender or a major accident, your vehicle will require some degree of smash repairs. However, not many vehicle owners know what to consider when they take their vehicle to be fixed. Usually, since most smash repairs are covered by insurance, be it by yours or the other party's, you will find that vehicle owners will only be concerned about when they will be able to reclaim use of their vehicle. Here are some of the considerations that you should keep in mind when you require smash repairs.

You have the freedom of selecting your preferred auto mechanic

It is not uncommon to find the insurance provider referring you auto shops that they typically work with when it comes to car repairs. However, this by no means translates into you not having a say in the matter. Some repair shops have the tendency of enticing insurance adjusters with the prospect of lower costs in repairs. In some instances, this may translate into poor quality work. If you would rather have your smash repairs done by your own local auto mechanic, then you should not feel pressured into opting for a different auto shop.

Steer clear from aftermarket repair parts

When you take your vehicle in for smash repairs, take note to inquire about the types of replacement parts that the body shop will use. Generally, there are two main types of parts that can be installed in your vehicle. The first are the original equipment manufacturer (OEM) parts. These, as the name suggests, are produced directly by the manufacturer of the vehicle. The second option are the aftermarket repair parts. These may look identical to OEMs but are actually a cheaper alternative and may not have as high a performance rate as the OEMs. It is always best to opt for your vehicle's original parts if you would like to keep it running in optimum condition. This is because some aftermarket parts may cause corrosion in your vehicle and lead to its ultimate decline over time.

Inspect the warning lights before you retrieve your vehicle

After your vehicle has undergone smash repairs, it is best to inspect all the warning lights to ensure that it is in full working order. Some of the warning lights that you should observe include the check engine light, the airbag lights, the coolant light and more. This will help you rest assured that there are no other problems that will crop up once the vehicle is back under your care.
